Dr. Zhao Xiao, renowned Chinese economist |
Dr. Zhao’s PHC lecture will be on The X-Factor in the Chinese Economy: The Key to Understanding China's Future, in which he will examine the astonishing transformations that the Chinese economy and society have experienced and how the bourgeoning growth of faith will profoundly impact China as it continues its dynamic global expansion. Dr. Zhao has made headlines both at home and abroad with his view that the Chinese economy, widely acknowledged to be riddled with corruption, must have a deeper moral underpinning if it is to continue to thrive.
In an Esquire magazine article entitled “God Is My CEO,” he compared different market economies from the perspective of morality.
“I discovered that there is a foundation of morality behind the American market economy,” Dr. Zhao, a former Communist Party member, recently told PBS’s “Frontline World.” “In China… we still need a transition in the area of morality.”
In 2005, Dr. Zhao was named one of the “Ten Young Leaders of Our Generation” by People’s Weekly magazine, and the prominent Chinese Economist Think Tank reports that his writings have the highest readership of any economist, author or columnist in China. Presently on the faculty of the Management School of the University of Science and Technology in Beijing, Dr. Zhao previously headed the Economic Research Center, the policy research arm of the State Council, China’s cabinet.
A reception will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by Dr. Zhao’s lecture at 7 p.m. A question and answer session will follow the lecture. You are cordially invited to attend this fascinating lecture by one of China’s most influential leaders.
