Patrick Henry College
Colin A. Stewart, PHC's new Vice President for Advancement
Mr. Stewart comes to PHC from the George W. Bush Presidential Library and Foundation at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, where he has been serving as Senior Vice President of Development & Marketing and as Chief Operating Officer. He led the Bush Library’s successful start-up fundraising campaign, which has raised nearly $260 million in an 18-month period. Before this, Mr. Stewart served as Vice President of Development at the Heritage Foundation in Washington, D.C., and prior to that as Vice President of Development and Chief Operating Officer at the Family Research Council, also in Washington.
Before his years at conservative think tanks in Washington, Mr. Stewart worked as vice president of marketing and sales and as COO for a variety of organizations, such as New England Digital Corporation, Speer Communications, and Morgan Creek Productions, where he helped to successfully market major Hollywood productions such as Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (starring Kevin Costner) and The Last of the Mohicans (starring Daniel Day-Lewis).
An exemplar of the British school system and Oxford University, Mr. Stewart is well acquainted with the classical liberal arts, having studied, among other disciplines, Latin and Old and Middle English while pursuing undergraduate studies at Oxford. He earned an M.A. in English from Oxford University and later an M.B.A. from the London Business School at London University. Mr. Stewart also holds the A.R.C.O. diploma from the Royal College of Organists and has served as a keyboardist, pianist, and organist with the local churches that he and his wife, Katie, and their two daughters have attended.
Citing his reasons for pursuing a position with PHC, Mr. Stewart noted: "The College's fundamental statements are infused with biblical truth, and (my wife) Katie and I are passionately committed to the principle of Christian education as an important vehicle for cultural transformation. Given the exciting inflexion point at which Patrick Henry College is now positioned, Katie and I feel I could bring my skills and experience to bear to help the President and Board of Trustees execute their bold vision for the future, by optimizing and maximizing the provision of financial resources. There is an opportunity here to make a significant difference."
Sharing his own excitement at the appointment, PHC President Graham Walker noted that, “Once again, the Lord is bringing us leadership of a caliber that dramatically surpasses what a small, new college could normally expect. Colin Stewart will deepen the Christian academic character of Patrick Henry College, even as his work strengthens the College’s financial position. I am so thankful that he and Katie are eager to join us in the work here for Christ and for Liberty. The Father continues to provide wonderfully for PHC; ‘Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised!’” (Ps. 48:1)
Mr. Stewart says he and his wife Katie feel doubly blessed to be able to return to northern Virginia and to reunite with their former church family in Manassas. They will settle in the Haymarket area, and he plans to resume his worship ministry role at the Manassas Assembly of God.
