PHC’s EdenTroupe Producing a Comedy Nov. 14-17

Penny Sycamore writes melodramas. Her husband, Paul, sets off fireworks in the basement with the help of Mr. De Pinna, an iceman who stopped in one day and never left. Their daughter, Essie, dreams of being a ballerina, but she cannot dance. And their other daughter, Alice, is in love with the boss’s son, Tony Kirby, at her perfectly normal, everyday office job.
These are some of the characters in You Can’t Take It With You by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart, the play that Patrick Henry College’s EdenTroupe is producing this fall. As the freewheeling Sycamores and straight-laced Kirbys meet, love (and fireworks!) explode. The two families must together decide what truly matters in life.
“We’re definitely excited,” said senior Kelsey Stapler who, with junior Scott York, is directing the play. “We think that this play comes at a good time, since it is a comedy, and we’ve had dramas the last few semesters. And its values fit in well with PHC. You can never leave family members behind, and you must accept them for who they are.”
Performances will run November 14-17, the weekend before Thanksgiving. The doors open at 6:30, and the play begins at 7:00 each evening in PHC's Town Hall. Tickets are currently on sale in the PHC Bookstore.
