Raquel - Counselor

Raquel is a sophomore at PHC. She a literature major, because she loves that literature encompasses the whole human being. For her, finding new ways to understand the world is part of what makes life so exciting. She grew up in Mexico, the child of missionary parents. As a result of living amongst horses, cacti, and cobblestone streets, she is a self-described “travel bug.” Every so often, she gets an overwhelming urge to pack up and move to the other side of the world. Traveling and experiencing different ways of living makes her understanding of the human experience so much richer. It, like literature, ties into the human story.

Raquel loves languages and dreams of being a polyglot. Already fluent in Spanish, she also speaks some German, Swahili, and is studying Greek. She hopes to learn Russian and Arabic one day. She and her family frequently go hiking and camping. They avoid hotels, preferring to “rough-it” in the wilderness. Raquel also enjoys rock climbing, and as a quirk, absolutely cannot eat popcorn without hot sauce.

While this is Raquel’s first year as a PHC teen camp counselor, she has been a camp counselor at a Bible camp in Iowa. She is so excited to spend time with the campers this summer.
