Patrick Henry College is pleased to announce the new Academy Alumni Scholarship for incoming students enrolled in Patrick Henry College Preparatory Academy courses during their high school years. Beginning in fall 2014, tuition paid by prospective students for PHC Prep courses will be matched with a scholarship toward tuition at PHC. The tuition-matching scholarship will be applied evenly over eight semesters at PHC.
The PHC Office of Admissions and the PHC Prep Academy staff expect the scholarship to encourage more students to enroll at the College, as it provides financial assistance to those already hoping or inclined to attend the school.
“In Fall 2014, 30% of the incoming freshman class at Patrick Henry College had taken classes with PHC Prep Academy in high school,” PHC Prep Program Coordinator Colin Black said. “While not every student who takes classes with PHC Prep Academy in high school will attend PHC in the future, we would like to reward the students who do.”
Patrick Henry College and HSLDA launched PHC Prep Academy in 2009 to provide advanced online high school courses taught from a Christian worldview. What started as a program with only 39 students enrolled in an Advance Placement (AP) U.S. Government and Politics course has grown in the past five years to a full-fledged program with eight Advanced Placement* courses and over 400 students.
Homeschool and private school students take PHC Prep classes from all 50 U.S. states and ten other countries—including Australia, Canada, Germany, Japan, Kenya, Poland, Singapore, Taiwan, and Venezuela.
The eight classes offered by PHC Prep Academy are Advanced Placement courses, equivalent in difficulty to freshman-level college courses. AP courses prepare students to achieve high scores on AP exams, which can qualify them to receive credit, advanced placement, or both at most US four-year colleges.
