No better way to start off November than PHC women’s basketball! The Sentinel women’s team came out victorious (63-54) in Wednesday night's scrimmage against the Loudoun County Patriots, showing an exciting glimpse of what’s in store for the upcoming season. (#14) Lliana Devour, (#1) Grace Banks, and (#15) Amelia Ruiz led the way for the Sentinels with a combined 58 points. Oohs and Ahs could be heard from the crowd as the dynamic, freshman trio slithered their way past defenders. Even PHC’s infamous history professor, Dr. Spinney, was impressed, as he was spotted watching the game.
The Sentinels managed to keep a comfortable lead throughout the game and led 48-33 with 8:00 left in the 4th quarter. Their intensity on the defensive end forced turnovers that led to several transition buckets. However, the Patriots were not about to go down without a fight, and went on quite the run, closing the gap to six points (58-52) with about 2:00 left to go. Determined to start out the season strong, the Sentinels only gave up one bucket within those final two minutes, finishing out the game 63-54.
Students are not only anticipating an exciting season, but an exciting four years with the amount of freshman talent on this team. Needless to say, PHC athletics is on the rise..
