In the final game before winter break, PHC took on the athletic Central International Cardinals. The Sentinels were up at halftime 42-40 and it was a close one for most of the second half until the Cardinals went on a run with about five minutes left. The final score was 74-85.
PHC showed some of their best ball movement of the season, particularly in the first half. Guards, Larter and Ziemnick, drove to the basket and dished to an open Andrew Penrod at the block, who led the team with 26 points and 14 rebounds. Freshman, Jake Ward, hit two key daggers from deep that gave PHC the 64-62 lead with seven minutes left.
The game looked like it was in the Sentinel’s hands until late in the fourth when #4 on Central International took control of the game. “This is a game that we absolutely should have won,” said veteran Chris Ziemnick. Although the first part of the season has not been what the men have hoped for, they have the potential to change the tide of their 1-4 record. Jake Ward said, “Despite the painful loss going into the winter break, we are going to use it as motivation to work diligently, get stronger, and play harder.”
