Basketball is back and better than ever before here at Patrick Henry College. The sound of Sentinel’s draining triples, shoes squeaking on the hardwood floor, and brand-new lights illuminating the court are a pleasant indicator that the season is back in full swing. To kick things off, the men competed against Appalachian Bible College in the “whiteout game” and came out victorious 78-60.
The first half was closer than PHC had anticipated, 40-35. Lackluster defense enabled the ABC Warriors to stay within seven points throughout the whole first half. Coach Roynestad pleaded with his players to stay in front of their opponent using their feet instead of slapping with their hands but to no avail. Three of the starters ended the game with four or more fouls. If the Sentinels want to have a chance at winning their upcoming games they are going to need to play smarter on defense.
Fortunately, within the last 8 minutes, PHC was able to fire things up and go on a run that gave them a comfortable lead. Offensively, the team was led by Larter, Canfield, and Penrod who combined for 55 points. The men looked to attack the rim more in this game which also benefited them offensively.
It is good to have basketball back to bring some life to the halls of Patrick Henry College. PHC, who is now 2-4, will look to win their next one against Frederick CC on the 23rd.
