It was a basketball frenzy here in Purcellville as six colleges traveled across the East Coast to compete in the annual NIT/WNIT basketball tournament at Patrick Henry College. The tournament consisted of a seven-seed single-elimination bracket. Your Sentinels were seeded 3rd, proceeded only by Trinity College of Florida and Word of Life. The tournament also featured an exciting dunk and three-point contest, and if that wasn’t enough, a Gringo Gordos food truck served many happy basketball fans delicious empanadas.
PHC competed against the six-seed, Lancaster Bible College, in their first game of the tournament. They came up short 63-76. It was tough to lose the first game and see the chances of winning be destroyed so quickly, but they weren’t about to give up in their own tournament.
PHC proceeded to outdo Appalachian Bible College 66-48 in their next game and Crown College 72-61 in the 5th place game. Tenacity on defense and relentless finishing in the paint was the key for PHC in those final two victories. Lancaster Bible ended up playing Trinity College in a thrilling championship game that ended 94-91 in favor of Trinity. Overall, the Sentinels leave the tournament in high spirits. It was a weekend of great fun competition for fans and players alike.
