Patrick Henry College's six beautiful Williamsburg-style residence halls (three female, three male) are well-equipped to provide students with all the comforts of a full college experience. For security, they are accessible only through student ID cards.
Each residence hall is staffed by Resident Assistants (RAs) who provide students with a quality living and learning experience in the residence halls. Two Resident Directors (RDs) oversee the leadership of the RAs, one for the men and one for the women.
Mount Vernon has four wings and houses up to 60 women. Each wing contains two two-room suites sharing a common bathroom, and each room has its own sink. The larger room in each suite has a maximum occupancy of four, and the smaller one has a maximum occupancy of three. Mount Vernon has a laundry room on each floor and a social lounge on the first floor. Each room contains two desks, and the students without desks in their rooms claim cubicles in the second-floor study lounge. Mount Vernon's basement, the campus Town Hall, serves as a classroom and the location for Eden Troupe's performances.
Monticello, another women's dorm, has the same structure and capacity as Mount Vernon: four wings containing suite-style rooms. Monticello also has a laundry room on each floor and a social lounge on the first floor, as well as the second-floor study lounge with cubicles.
Montpelier has the same layout and capacity as Mount Vernon and Monticello, but PHC renovated it during of the summer of 2024. Updates include wood flooring instead of carpeting, as well as new furniture. One fun fact about Montpelier is that it was a men's dorm at the college's founding, became a women's dorm when Red Hill was built in 2003, then switched back to being a men's dorm after Shiloh was built in 2024.
Oak Hill has the same structure and capacity as Mount Vernon, Monticello, and Montpelier, as it was one of PHC's original dorms. Oak Hill has always housed men. One thing this dorm is known for is hosting a block party once a semester with grilled food and outdoor games. During the time that Oak Hill and Red Hill were the only men's dorms, the two competed regularly in flag football games.
Red Hill began housing men in the spring of 2003, and it was PHC's first traditional-style dorm. The rooms in Red Hill house two to three men, with six wings and a common bathroom in each wing. Red Hill houses up to 88 men. It contains laundry rooms on each floor and several study and social lounges throughout the building. Red Hill's basement is home to the science classrooms, as well as the Strategic Intelligence lab and the offices of multiple professors.
Shiloh, PHC's newest dorm, began housing women during the spring of 2024. It also has a traditional style, where each of the four wings has a common bathroom. Rooms house two to four people, and each wing contains five rooms. Shiloh has a downstairs lounge, as well as a women-only upstairs lounge, in addition to a study lounge with a conference table and an outside porch. As with the other dorms, it contains laundry rooms on each floor. Click the video to see a walk-through of the dorm!
