This endowed scholarship fund was established to memorialize and celebrate the life of James W. Fingarson by his stepdaughters, Beverly Lipscomb Walker and Carlton Lipscomb Rowe.
"In Jim's later years, he married our mother after the deaths of their spouses. Although we only knew him 7 years, he became close to our families and dear to our hearts. He was reared in North Dakota and attended the University of North Dakota until 1942, when he enlisted in the U. S. Navy. He was trained as a pilot and flew PBYs in the South Pacific for the duration of World War II. Because of his flight experiences in the war, he developed a love of flying and owned his own plane for many years. In his retirement years, volunteering and helping others became a way of life for him. Although Jim was only a part of our lives for a few years, we are grateful for his love for our mother and our families. We are blessed to be able to honor him.
In recognition of James W. Fingarson's life, this scholarship is intended to provide assistance for promising young men and women to carry on the work of advancing the kingdom of Christ. We hope that future leaders will proceed into the service of our Lord and to others, in part because he lived."
The James W. Fingarson Scholarship Fund will allow Patrick Henry College to perpetually bless countless deserving students by enabling them to begin, continue, and finish their education in the service of Christ and Liberty.
