Though Patrick Henry College's commencement ceremony has been postponed, President Jack Haye wanted to send off the graduating class with some words of encouragement. Read what he had to say...
Congratulations Class of 2020! We are so proud of your accomplishments, your tenacity and (most recently) your flexibility. These last few weeks have allowed each of us to discover God at work in unexpected ways as we have learned anew to trust Him.
“Blessed are those who trust in the LORD and have made the LORD their hope and confidence. They are like trees planted along a riverbank with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green and they never stop producing fruit”. Jeremiah 17:7-8
Our prayer for you as you go is that you will both experience and dispense the love of God lavishly. There is a watching world that needs see the “evidence of the hope that is within you”.
Paul’s letter to the Colossians contains an exaltation that I would like to paraphrase as a benediction of your time at Patrick Henry College.
“We have not stopped praying for you since we first heard about you. We ask God to give you complete knowledge of His will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding. Then the way you live will always honor and please the LORD and your lives will produce every kind of good fruit.
All the while, you will grow as you learn to know God better and better.
We also pray that you will be strengthened with all His glorious power so you will have all the endurance and patience you need.
May you be filled with joy, always thanking the Father. He has enabled you to share in the inheritance that belongs to His people who live in the light.
For He has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us in to the Kingdom of His dear Son who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins."
Now that is good news!
May you go and live in that Light—putting down deep roots and bearing much fruit for His Kingdom.
President Haye
