"Self-reliance can be helpful when expressed in skill sets," Cox said, "but when it prevents one from being clothed in humility and loving service to others, it wreaks havoc. Indeed, it can become a form of prideful individualism."
In his Faith & Reason lecture titled "Character: The Necessary Foundation of Calling," Dr. Darrel Cox encouraged students to use their relationship with Christ as the bedrock of their lives. If their identity is not rooted in Christ, they would find themselves adrift. He warned the student body against trying to live the Christian life in a vacuum, emphasizing the need for community.
