There are just two days left until PHC's WJI Multi-Media Journalism, Debate, and C.S. Lewis: Beyond the Lamp Post Camp registrations close! They will begin one week from today. Registration officially closes at 11:59p.m. on Thursday, July 9th, so make sure to register now so you don't miss out! Our instructors and counselor team are excited to work with you this summer, and we have some great activities and lectures planned for you!
We have a few updates about each of the camps for you to read over!
Here are a few exciting details about our WJI Multi-Media Journalism camp:
-
Hear from 5 WORLD journalists at the camp.
-
Journalism project… Work through producing a video or audio news story. Start with the idea, work on script, fine-tune through editing, and present your final version. Will be a chance to profile someone you know. Through this process you will learn professional video and editing techniques.
-
Learn about Christian story-telling and how to apply it in the world of journalism.

Here are a few exciting details about our Debate camp:
-
Explore the elements of “classical debate” and the thoughts of great debaters.
- Similar to last year, this is a "classical debate" camp: we will be discussing modern theory tied to both Team Policy and Lincoln-Douglas debate, but we will also be integrating Eastern and Western models of rhetoric to guide our discussion on form and strategy. Last year we introduced you all to Aristotle and Sun Tzu (or Lao Tze); this year we will be adding Klauswicz (the European theorist who invented the strategy that would later be known as the blitzkrieg) and Longinus to the list, discussing time usage and sublimity in your speaking strategy and style respectively.
-
Participate in targeted teaching sessions to grasp key topics.
- We will be doing extensive brainstorming of the topics like we did last year, but we will take this one step further this year by breaking out more of our sessions between Team Policy and Lincoln-Douglas to give more targeted teaching, as well as an extended history of the topic to give you a better grasp of the scenario surrounding the topics this year.
-
Refine your arguments and speaking through policy and Lincoln-Douglas debate rounds.
- For those who have done Team Policy and Lincoln-Douglas debate before (or those who are brand new and would like to give it a shot!) we will be doing extensive cross-examination of your arguments by both your instructors and your classmates. Our aim this year is to give you well-crafted affirmative and negative arguments this year for use during the competition season.

Here are a few exciting details about our C.S. Lewis: Beyond the Lamp Post camp:
-
Dig deep into the Lewis works and have discussions about the symbolism Lewis weaves throughout his works. Leave camp, not just with a better appreciation for The Chronicles of Narnia, but with a deeper understanding of the role of story in our lives.
-
Creative Writing Breakout Sessions among the C.S. Lewis discussion and lectures so that you can stretch your literary muscles.
-
Enjoy breakout discussion groups led by a PHC student to dive deeper into the lecture materials.
